The Husqvarna 450 Rancher is a traditional 2-cycle gasoline powered chainsaw that we would consider a great homesteading saw.
We have used this saw ourselves for more than 5 years to prepare firewood for the winter months, and it has performed admirably year-after-year. The 20" bar makes it capable enough to tackle some larger sized logs, and the 50cc engine has plenty of power to cut through anything you throw at it, as long as you keep your chain sharpened! There is also a decompression switch on this saw which makes the initial starting quite a bit easier. We put a 24" bar on our 450 Rancher for a bit more reach, and it handles it without issue.
